Tickets On Sale For Calif.'s POWERBALL Lottery

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Tickets for the POWERBALL lottery went on sale for the first time ever at 6 a.m. Monday in California.

California is the 43rd state to join the game.

Tickets cost just $2 with the lottery sales benefiting local public schools.

The game is "is expected to bring in $45-50 million in additional supplemental funds for California schools and have a significant impact on the state economy," POWERBALL officials said.

Winning numbers are drawn every Wednesday and Saturday.

Players choose five numbers from one to 59 and one red POWERBALL number from one to 35.

California's first jackpot is already up to $60 million.

POWERBALL has six of the 10 biggest lottery jackpots on record in the United States.
