Thousands Of Plants Seized In Marijuana Sting Operation From Diamond Bar Home
DIAMOND BAR (CBS) — A marijuana greenhouse in an upscale neighborhood of Diamond Bar was put out of business Monday night.
More than 1,000 pot plants were seized from a house in the 24000 block of Highcrest Drive.
Police arrested two men in connection with what they call an indoor marijuana growing operation inside a $1 million-dollar home in Diamond Bar.
Neighbors said it was happening right under their noses.
"It's pretty surprising. It's a pretty nice community so you wouldn't expect that to happen here," said resident Chris Cadiz.
But sheriff's investigators said these operations are becoming more common. In the past year, they've made more than 30 busts like this in the San Gabriel Valley.
From an upstairs window investigators told us you can see the glow of a lamp specifically designed for growing pot.
Detectives estimate there were more than 2,000 plants – each worth about $2,000.
Neighbors weren't sure who owns the property. For now, detectives believe it was being rented.
Investigators said they were lead to the house from a tip from Southern California Edison after a technician saw an extraordinarily high power reading from a meter for the house.
Detectives say the house was equipped with filters that block out the smell of what was inside.
"They did a good job concealing it but you can't hide that forever," said Lt. Nick Tippings of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.
