Thieves Steal 16 Fire Hydrants In Redlands

REDLANDS(CBSLA.com) — Thieves have stolen more than a dozen fire hydrants off streets in Redlands, resulting in a $40,000 loss for the city.

The thefts took place between the evening of Sept. 11 and the morning of Sept. 12  along West Lugonia Avenue, Research Drive, Almond Avenue and Bryn Mawr Avenue in the northwest part of Redlands, according to City of Redlands Public Information Officer Carl Baker.

In all, 16 fire hydrants were stolen.

The city is currently working with a contractor to order and install replacement hydrants, Baker said.

"The public is encouraged to call police or dial 911 any time they see anyone other than a uniformed firefighter or City employee working on a fire hydrant, manhole or backflow device, especially at night," he said.
