The Real Carmageddon? Wilshire Ramps To 405 To Be Closed
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — SoCal residents survived last month's 405 Freeway shutdown in the Sepulveda Pass without big problems.
Officials say we could be headed towards a bigger and badder version of "Carmageddon" when a scheduled 405 closure hits at Wilshire Boulevard.
The city's busiest intersection, Wilshire and Westwood, is a few blocks away from the freeway so when the on- and off-ramps to the 405 close commuters can expect a lot of traffic.
The closure is part of a plan to build a carpool lane on the 405 Freeway between the 10 and 101 freeways. Workers will also create swooping flyover ramps that will make it easier to manneuver and safer to navigate the gridlock.
There are currently eight Wilshire ramps that connect to the 405 Freeway. Crews will tackle two ramps at a time in a closure that could last anywhere from two weeks to 90 days.
