The Best Ways To Kill Time At LAX

Don't fret when your your flight is inadvertently delayed in Los Angeles. Instead, take advantage of all that LAX has to offer. The following are a handful of your best bets.

Hours: Daily; 10 a.m. - 10 p.m

If you are craving a hand-tossed pizza from a wood-burning oven, head on over to the airport branch of this Los Angeles mainstay. From pizza to salad, this establishment is sure to satisfy your craving. And no, delivery to your gate is not available--but, thankfully, take-out is available.

Hours: Daily; 6 a.m. - 10 p.m.

What a find at LAX, especially if you're in the mood for some yummy casual fare and a congenial atmosphere to wait out your departure. Situated in the terminal 6 food court, Jody Maroni's reigns. In fact, the sausage kingdom is a classic in the Southland with the original location serving Venice Beach bums for decades with all kinds of edible links. Try the Louisiana Boudin hot link, served with enough chilis to be called this handy outfit's hottest dish, in more ways than one.

Hours: Daily; 6 a.m. - 10 p.m.

This tiny outlet of California's best sweets--a Southland mainstay since 1921--is the best place at LAX to buy a host gift before you hit the road. Forgo the cheesy souvenir shops and purchase a half pound of Scotch kisses to gift and a half pound of dark chocolate maple walnut goodies to eat as you wait to be whisked away from the city.

Hours: Daily; 5:30 - 10 p.m.

If the kids get antsy while waiting to fly, seek out Kids Works for every imaginable type of toy and then some, from classic Hot Wheels to collectible Star Wars staples. Tiny clothing is also on tap should you have neglected to pack enough socks or a warm sweater for the cool trip ahead.

Flying Southwest and looking for a gadget to keep you busy while you wait for your flight to be called? Just past security, Brookstone is at your service with all manner of practical and not-so-practical items, up to and including massive massage chairs to sooth any frayed nerves. One good find for the sojourner thwarted by a long delay is the extended life mobile phone batteries, so your cell can wait it out with you.
