Tens Of Thousands Of Sports Fans To Descend On Downtown LA

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles is weathering a perfect storm of weekend sports that's bringing tens of thousands of hockey, basketball and cycling fans downtown.

Police officials report no major traffic incidents Sunday near the Staples Center, where the Amgen Tour of California cycling race ended just as the NHL's Kings were set to host the Phoenix Coyotes.

Two pedestrian bridges were built along Figueroa Street to allow Kings fans to cross the bike route. Staples was nearly full a half-hour before game time, as hockey fans heeded officials' advice to arrive early.

With the shutdown of many downtown streets for the bike race, fans were also urged to take public transportation.

On Saturday the LA Lakers hosted the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Clippers took on the San Antonio Spurs in rare back-to-back NBA playoff games at Staples.
