Teen Shot Near Pomona Elementary School
POMONA (CBS) — Police Thursday searched for suspects after a boy, 15, was shot in the leg in an apparent gang-related attack outside an elementary school in Pomona.
The shooting, which was reported at 2:43 p.m. outside Philadelphia Elementary School at 600 E. Philadelphia St., prompted a campus lockdown while police searched for the teenage suspects, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Matt Levesque.
The victim, who is not a student at the school, was targeted while on the sidewalk in front of the school, Levesque said.
The suspects ran from the area after the shooting. They were only identified as three males ages 15 to 17 and are not believed to be students at the school.
"Officers set a perimeter and conducted a search for the suspects," said Sgt. Matt Stone of Pomona Police Department. "The suspects were not found."
The school was placed on a temporary lockdown until officers finished a search of the immediate area, Stone said.
The victim, whose name was not released, was transported to a hospital.
