Teen Boy Shot, Killed Outside South LA Market
SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – An 18-year-old boy was shot and killed outside a market in South Los Angeles early Monday morning.
According to Los Angeles police, just before 2 a.m. shots rang out just outside Happy Shoppers Market, located at 6401 S. Vermont Ave., which was open at the time.
The victim, later identified by his grandfather as Monte Bowman, was shot several times outside the store. He then stumbled into the market, where he died.
Bowman's grandfather, Arthur Jackson, told reporters that Bowman was ambushed. However, police did not immediately confirm any details.
"I don't know, they say some guys came out the alley, and was two of them, and they shot him, and he was shot in the heart," Jackson said.
No suspect information has been released and no arrests have been made. There was no word on a motive or whether the shooting was gang related, although the neighborhood is known for heavy gang activity.
