'Suspicious Person' Riding Bike Shot By Sheriff's Deputies
SOUTH GATE (CBS) — Detectives are continuing to investigate a deputy-involved shooting of a "suspicious person" riding a bicycle in South Gate Saturday.
The incident occurred in the 9600 block of South Atlantic Avenue just after 8:30 p.m.
Investigators have learned that a deputy made contact with the "suspicious person" just before a physical confrontation ensued. The deputy, believing that the suspect was armed with a handgun, fired one round from his weapon.
The suspect, Chalino Sanchez, 37, of South Gate, was taken to a local hospital. He was treated for a gunshot wound to the shoulder. He was subsequently booked and released on two misdemeanor warrants.
No deputies were hurt in the incident.
Officials said there is no additional information available at this time.
