Package Found At Sen. Dianne Feinstein's LA Office Building Cleared

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA/CBS News) – A package that was discovered Thursday at a building that houses one of Sen. Dianne Feinstein's state offices was ruled safe by investigators.

SKY2 was over the scene at the intersection of Santa Monica and Sepulveda boulevards.

The Los Angeles police bomb squad arrived at around 6 p.m. after a mailroom employee in Sen. Feinstein's office noticed a manila envelope with a handwritten address that misspelled "Monica" in "Santa Monica Boulevard." The employee, police said, thought the package looked suspicious so he called 911.

The package, according to police, was X-rayed and turned out to be a CD.

It is not yet clear if the package was addressed to the Democratic California senator. The senator has several offices in California, including one in West Los Angeles that serves L.A., Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara and Ventura.

LAPD said the mailroom employee who alerted authorities made the right call.

It wasn't the only false alarm Thursday.

New York City's Time Warner Center, the building that houses CNN's Manhattan headquarters, was partially evacuated for about an hour as police investigated a "pair of unattended packages" found at the building. The New York Police Department's bomb squad later declared an "all clear" on the packages.

The evacuation Thursday was the second such instance this week for the Time Warner Center. A suspicious package, which was addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan, was sent to CNN's Manhattan office Wednesday.

Suspicious packages were mailed to several prominent Democratic figures, including former President Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton, 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Rodham Clinton, former Vice President Joe Biden, Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters of California. Suspicious enveloped caused a hazmat scare at the Los Angeles Times Wednesday.
