Suspected Gunman, Victims In Pico Rivera Nightclub Shooting ID'd
PICO RIVERA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Monday identified the suspect and victims in a weekend nightclub shooting in Pico Rivera.
The incident happened outside of the El Rodeo club in the 8800 block of Washington Boulevard around 2:40 a.m. Sunday.
Police said Melvin Cortez, 37, the club's valet driver, was shot and killed, and security guard Angel Guillen, 26, was wounded when 21-year-old Sebastian Zazueta opened fire.
Witnesses said the suspect caused a disturbance in the club earlier in the evening, which prompted security to escort him out of the building.
Zazueta allegedly returned with four associates, two men and two women, but they were denied entrance to the club.
The suspect then went to a vehicle, got a handgun and shot the two victims, according to police.
Zazueta, of Oxnard, was arrested after a brief foot pursuit and booked for murder. He's being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
The individuals who were with the suspect were also detained, but later released when it was determined that they had no involvement with the murder, authorities said.
A handgun was recovered at the scene.
