Suspected Drunk Driver In Wrong-Way Crash That Killed 6 Appears In Court
POMONA (CBSLA.com) — A 21-year-old suspected drunk driver in a wrong-way crash that killed six people on the 60 Freeway in Diamond Bar in February appeared in court on Wednesday.
CBS2's Tom Wait reported that Olivia Culbreath is charged with six counts of murder in connection to the Feb. 9 accident that took the life of her sister, a friend and four others in another vehicle.
Culbreath's attorney, Ramiro Cisneros, said she remains confined to a gurney and is unable to walk.
"She still has some significant medical issues. She's had several surgeries," he said. "Ms. Culbreath understandably is very scared given the situation that she's in. She does realize she's been charged with six counts of murder at this point. At the same time, she's also grieving for the people that died as a result of this incident."
Wait reported that Culbreath had two suspensions on her driving record.
According to the DMV, her license was suspended once in 2010 when she was 17 for excessive blood-alcohol content, and once for negligence in 2011. Her license was reinstated less than a week before the deadly collision.
Culbreath's next hearing is scheduled for May 21. Her bond remains at $6 million.
