Suspected Driver In Fatal Wrong-Way Crash Charged With Murder

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 21-year-old suspected driver in a fatal wrong-way crash that killed six people on the Pomona (60) Freeway was charged with murder Thursday.

Olivia Culbreath, of Fontana, has been charged with six counts of murder after six people were killed during the accident on Feb. 9 around 4:50 a.m. on the freeway in Diamond Bar.

Culbreath allegedly drove a Chevy Camaro into a 1998 Ford Explorer, which was then hit by a 2006 Ford Freestyle.

Four people were killed in the Ford Explorer as well as Culbreath's 24-year-old sister Maya and 21-year-old Kristin Young.

Culbreath, who CHP says was drunk and speeding at the time of the collision, remains at the hospital jail at County USC with a broken femur and ruptured bladder.

According to the DMV, her license had been suspended twice — once in 2010 when she was 17 for excessive blood-alcohol content, and once for negligence in 2011. It was reinstated on Feb. 4.

Culbreath, whose bail was set at $6 million, was scheduled to appear in court Thursday afternoon, but it was unknown if she will be able to attend due to her injuries.

If convicted, she's faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
