NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA)  — A robbery suspect was fatally wounded during an officer-involved shooting after a police pursuit in North Hollywood Thursday.

A source told Wait that there were two suspects in the vehicle. The other suspect was taken into custody. One of the men is believed to have been the wanted penny-pincher bandit.

That suspect was captured on surveillance video holding up a Canoga Park Mobil station. He helped himself to a pack of cigarettes, pointed a gun at a clerk and robbed the station of $800 and all but one of the pennies in the take a penny, leave a penny change bowl at the front counter.

Whether the penny-pincher was captured or shot this evening is unclear. But the suspect who took gunfire from police did not survive.

No officers were injured.
