Suspect In Pasadena Birthday Party Shooting Killed By Officers
DUARTE (CBSLA) — A parolee wanted in a Pasadena birthday party shooting that wounded two teens was shot and killed Friday afternoon by law enforcement.
Undercover officers with the Pasadena Police Department recognized the suspect at around 1 p.m. in the 700 block of Encanto Parkway in Duarte.
Officials said the suspect, a 28-year-old Latino man, was spotted inside a vehicle with a 36-year-old woman. The suspect was struck by police gunfire and airlifted to the hospital where he was declared dead. The woman was also struck once by a bullet. She was also taken to the hospital but is expected to survive. The woman was in possession of drugs and arrested on a narcotics charge, police said.
The circumstances that led up to the shooting were not confirmed.
On Saturday, officials announced a handgun was found in the deceased's car. Theu said the gun was collected as evidence and will be processed by the crime lab.
Four officers were involved in the incident -- one with California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, two from Pasadena police and one from the Glendale Police Department. One officer sustained minor injuries during the incident. The officer was taken to a local hospital, treated and released.
Homicide detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are investigating the shooting along with Pasadena police.
At around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, a gunman walked up to a party in front of a Pasadena home and opened fire. Two teen, a 19-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl, were injured. The victims were taken to a hospital where the man was in critical but stable condition and the girl was in stable condition after suffering a slight grazing wound.
