Kidnap Suspect Dead In Deputy-Involved Shooting In Lynwood
LYNWOOD (CBS) — A deputy-involved shooting in Lynwood on Thursday left a male kidnap suspect dead, authorities said.
The shooting occurred just after noon in the 11500 block of Atlantic Avenue after deputies responded to "a call of a possible kidnapping in progress," sheriff's Lt. Margarito Robles of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau said.
No deputies were wounded.
The suspect reportedly tried to abduct a 15-year-old female, according to Deputy Jeffrey Gordon of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.
"Witnesses saw the suspect trying to force the female...into his vehicle," Gordon said. "When the victim was able to get away from the suspect's grasp, the suspect drove his vehicle to the west side of Atlantic Avenue and stood in front of a local motel."
The unidentified suspect put his right hand in his right front pocket and charged at the first arriving deputy as she attempted to park her patrol car, Gordon said.
"Believing the suspect was armed and in fear for her safety, the deputy fired several rounds from her duty weapon," Gordon said.
The suspect was struck in the upper torso.
He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A weapon was not recovered from the suspect, Gordon said.
The attempted kidnapping victim sustained minor injuries to her neck and chest, Gordon said. Detectives believe she did not know the suspect.
