Suspect Wanted For Alleged Carjacking Flips Vehicle Over During Chase
SAN FERNANDO (CBSLA.com) — A carjacking suspect flipped the vehicle over during a pursuit Thursday evening.
The suspect was driving a Kia van. It was not known where the car was allegedly carjacked from.
The suspect blew through red lights in the San Fernando area and drove recklessly, said Stu Mundel reporting from Sky9.
Police approached the van with guns drawn after he flipped his car in Sylmar.
After about 20 minutes, where the suspect stuck his head out of the vehicle several times, the suspect surrendered without incident.
No other occupants were believed to be in the vehicle.
Following a chase of about 15 minutes, the car apparently flipped into what looked like a wash.
Mundel said "the suspect had some kind of weird agenda."
At one point, before agreeing to surrender, the man could be seen tossing various items from the vehicle, including clothes, floor mats and papers.
The man originally defied orders to leave the vehicle. Mundel said several officers were setting up to prepare for a possible barricade situation and even called for a K-9 unit to assist with the suspect's extraction.
