Suspect Sought In Stabbing On Monterey Park Bus
MONTEREY PARK (CBSLA.com) — Authorities sought the public's assistance Friday in identifying an attempted murder suspect who stabbed a patron on a Metro bus.
The incident occurred after 7:00 PM on Nov. 3 as the bus traveled through the city of Monterey Park, according to Transit Services Bureau detectives.
Video footage taken from the bus showed the suspect boarding at the same time as the victim, detectives said.
Shortly after boarding, the victim saw the suspect rose from his seat, according to investigators.
The victim thought the suspect was going to exit the bus, but instead and without provocation, the suspect stabbed the victim in the throat with a sharp object, possibly a knife, and ran off the bus, authorities said.
Detectives said the victim's account of the incident was confirmed when they reviewed the video.
"We want citizens to feel comfortable riding and see that we work hard to keep this as a very safe and reputable mode of transportation," said Detective Kyle Ynclan. "This is an unusual occurrence and when a suspect commits a crime like this on a Metro bus, they must be brought to justice."
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his throat injury. He has since been released and is expected to make a full recovery.
The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, approximately 30 years old, 6'0" tall, 200 pounds, with short black or brown hair, and a mustache with goatee. In the video footage, the suspect wore a light-colored shirt and dark shorts.
