Armed Man Shot, Killed By Anaheim Police After 5-Hour SWAT Standoff
ANAHEIM (CBSLA) – An armed man was shot and killed by police early Thursday morning following a SWAT standoff at an Anaheim home which lasted more than five hours.
The fatal shooting occurred at 3:50 a.m. outside a home in the 600 block of South Resh Street, Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer confirmed to CBSLA.
The 41-year-old suspect, who died at the scene, was not immediately identified. A gun was also recovered.
According to Carringer, the incident began at about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday when officers were dispatched to a report of a man who was acting erratically and may have fired a gun.
They arrived on scene to find a woman who had been with the suspect inside the home and was possibly a victim of domestic violence. She was unhurt and taken to safety, but the suspect barricaded himself inside the home alone and refused to come out, Carringer said.
A SWAT team was then called in. After a standoff which lasted several hours, the suspect came to the door, still armed, prompting officers to open fire on him just before 4 a.m. He died at the scene.
"The suspect came to the front door of his residence, or of the residence in question," Carringer said. "An officer-involved shooting did occur in that place. Our officers did employ life-saving efforts. Despite those best efforts that they did use, the suspect was declared deceased on scene."
No one else was injured.
The Orange County District Attorney's Office will investigate the shooting.
