Suspect Search Forces Lockdown Of San Fernando Valley Schools
CANOGA PARK (CBS) — Authorities locked down two San Fernando Valley schools Thursday following a fugitive search.
Canoga Park Elementary summer school and Faith Baptist were locked down for nearly two hours while the suspect was on the loose.
Police first caught the man around noon at a hotel after they searched the area of Topanga Canyon Boulevard to Farralone Avenue and Saticoy Street to Elkwood Street.
Officers tried to arrest the suspect on a warrant at that location, but he got into a scuffle with them and then ran off.
Police set up a perimeter and locked down the schools.
They eventually brought in a canine unit. The dog went directly to the hotel room where officers attempted the initial arrest and found the man hiding.
Besides facing the $20,000 misdemeanor warrant, the suspect now faces charges of battery on an officer.
