Suspect Killed In Deputy-Involved Shooting In Compton
COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — A suspect was fatally shot Thursday in a deputy-involved shooting in South Los Angeles, authorities reported.
Lt. Mike Rosson, of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, told CBS2/KCAL9's Kara Finnstrom they received a report of a burglary in progress at around 5 a.m. on Poplar Street.
As deputies arrived to the scene they saw a man, matching the description of the suspect, hopping over a fence in the 1100 block of West Arbutus Street, Rosson said.
The deputies noticed the man was armed with a handgun.
Moments later, gunshots were fired and the suspect was killed.
Rosson said deputies have recovered the man's firearm, but have not had a chance to examine it. He said it's not clear whether the suspect fired at deputies.
No deputies were injured.
The suspect was on probation or parole, which granted investigators access to search surrounding homes for evidence.
The suspect's name has been withheld pending notification of family.
