Suspect In 'Brazen' 2013 Redondo Beach Murder Captured In Salt Lake City

REDONDO BEACH (CBSLA.com) —  The Redondo Beach Police Department and FBI jointly announced the arrest of a suspect in a 2013 murder.

The suspect, Erick Julian Ortega, was working as a dishwasher in the Salt Lake City, Utah area with an assumed name, officials said.

On Tuesday, the police and FBI announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to Ortega's capture and arrest.

Ortega was wanted for what officials called "the brazen murder" of Bobby Darren Reynolds on June 21, 2013.

Police said they received an anonymous tip on Wednesday, via Nixle, suggesting Ortega was working as a dishwasher at an Italian restaurant in the Salt Lake City area.

On Thursday, about 11 a.m., officials said they contacted an individual matching Ortega's description at the eatery.

The FBI said the suspect refused to identify himself and they found an ID in his possession using another name.

Ortega was arrested on a federal charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Authorities said Ortega was booked into the Davis County Jail in Utah and faces extradition back to California.
