Man Accused In Double Fatal Hit-And-Run In Santa Ana Surrenders
SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A man has surrendered to authorities in connection with a double fatal hit-and-run in Santa Ana, police said Saturday.
Accompanied by family members, 21-year-old Jorge Ocampo turned himself into authorities at the Santa Ana police station just after midnight.
Ocampo, a documented gang member, was allegedly behind the wheel of a black Audi that hit a Nissan Sentra carrying 50-year-old Juan Jose Luna Castro and 53-year-old Alejandro Bravo at Cabrillo Park Drive and Fruit Street about 11 a.m. Friday, police said.
"He did not try to stop. He blew straight through the stop sign and our victims received the full impact," said Corp. Anthony Bertagna of the Santa Ana Police Department.
Investigators said the impact of the crash was so violent the victim's vehicle was thrown about 35-feet.
Bravo was pronounced dead at the scene while Castro died at a hospital.
Following the crash, Bertagna said the suspect walked up to victim's car and then walked away.
"What reason he had for running whether it was for being on probation or had he been drinking or was it the fact that he didn't have a license, those are all things that are going to have to be looked into," Bertagna told KNX 1070.

On Friday evening, an emotional candlelight vigil was held at the accident site to remember the victims, described as best friends. The men were remembered as loving fathers and grandfathers.
Ocampo was being held on pending charges of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run, CBS2's Joy Benedict reported.
