Lifeguards Reopen Two-Mile Stretch Of Sunset Beach In Wake Of Shark Sightings

SUNSET BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Lifeguards reopened a two-mile stretch of Sunset Beach Tuesday despite recent shark sightings along the coast of Orange County.

At 11:00 a.m., swimmers and surfers were allowed back into the ocean following a temporary closure.

On Monday afternoon, a Huntington Beach police helicopter patrolling over Sunset Beach spotted two 12-foot sharks and a 10-foot shark off the coast from Anderson Street.

The beach had just reopened following a closure on Sunday.

Marine safety experts said these sharks did not appear to be aggressive.

The sightings have occurred most likely because of warm waters that have sent these sharks in search of food.

Lifeguards will continue to monitor the activity of the sharks.
