Stunt Performers From L.A.-Based Company Credited With S.D. Rescue
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Law enforcement officials are crediting three stuntmen from a Los Angeles-based company with the rescue of an apparently distraught woman from a San Diego high rise.
San Diego police Lt. Kevin Mayer said the woman had reportedly climbed over the balcony railing of the building on Eighth Avenue and Market Street on Thursday afternoon in a possible suicide attempt.
That's when the men, who were in town for Comic-Con, sprung into action. They first scaled a fence and then asked a security guard for access to the 14th floor.
After gaining entry into her home, the lieutenant said one of the men grabbed the woman in a bear hug while the others strapped her into a harness, pulling her back over the railing.
The U-T San Diego identified the stuntmen as Gregg Sargeant, Scott Schecter, and Amus Carver.
The woman was uninjured. She was subsequently taken to UC San Diego Medical Center for an evaluation.
Sargeant told the newspaper that the rescue didn't make him feel like a superhero.
"It's what we do everyday for stunts," he said. "It happened so fast and we just responded."
