Studio City Gears Up For 16th Annual 4th Of July Fireworks Festival
STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — Studio City is gearing up for the 16th Annual Fourth of July Fireworks Festival on the CBS Studio Center lot.
The event, which kicks off at 4:30 p.m. Friday at 4200 Radford Ave., is sponsored by the Studio City Chamber of Commerce.
"It keeps getting better and better. It keeps getting bigger. It's just always so much fun," Esther Walker, the executive director of the Studio City Chamber of Commerce, said.
Walker, who is also the director of the fireworks show, said, "I think it's one of the biggest ones. When I'm up on the roof, we always tend to start before the rest of them in the Valley and we end after theirs. So ours tend to be really long, they're set to music, they're really spectacular, they're great fireworks."
The festival also features some great grub.
"Bacon-wrapped hot dogs, there's pizza, there's tacos, there's fries, there's garlic fries, tater tots, little mini corndogs, that type of stuff. Then in the main food court area, we have ribs, and all of our ribs and chicken and tri-tip…that's all smoked," festival caterer Jon Bayouth said.
KCAL9's Amy Johnson reports that there are plenty of activities to enjoy before the fireworks show, as well.
"We've got some great entertainment. We have Paperback Writer, which is a Beatles tribute band. We have the rhythm section, which is jazz. We've got magic shows, we've got pirates. We have a kids' fun zone," Walker said.
All of the fun helps raise funds and awareness for the Children's Tumor Foundation.
"We're a national non-profit, and we're dedicated to finding effective treatments for neurofibromatosis," Kelly Mills of the Children's Tumor Foundation said.
Neurofibromatosis is a condition that causes tumors to grow throughout the nerves. It affects 1 in 3,000.
"We love coming out to this event because we're able to give back to the Studio City community, as well as meet new people," Mills said.
