Students Fall Ill At Another LAUSD Elementary School
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Eight students at an L.A. Unified elementary school fell ill Monday with symptoms similar to those reported by 20 students at a different school last week.
Monday's cases were reported at Dolores Huerta Elementary School, 260 E. 31st St. in the Historic South-Central neighborhood, around 12:50 p.m. On Friday, paramedics responded to Ritter Elementary School in Watts after students complained of becoming ill.
District officials said tests on food served at Ritter Elementary came back negative for food-borne illnesses. The district noted that the children who became ill on Friday ate different kinds of meals, reducing the chance that the sicknesses were the result of school lunches.
L.A. Unified and the county Department of Public Health are attempting to determine if a communicable disease or viral illness could have been passed among the students.
Parents of students at both schools will be provided with information and tips about preventing the spread of illnesses --
including recommendations for hand-washing and keeping students home from school if they have symptoms such as nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, according to the school district.
