Student Arrested In Stabbing Death Of Beloved Job Corps Counselor
HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — A 22-year-old student has been arrested in the murder of a Los Angeles Job Corps Center counselor.
Freddie Leyva has been arrested in the stabbing death of 59-year-old Dwayne Alexander, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Leyva allegedly stabbed Alexander around 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to according to Officer Karen Rayner. Leyva was detained by other students until police arrived.
The suspect is a live-in student at the center, which is located at 1200 N. Lodi Pl. and offers free year-long career training.
"It shouldn't have happened. I know a lot of people are sad. I know a lot of my friends that I saw over there, they're devastated because he's a great guy," former student Jonathan Whitney told CBS2. "And by somebody who didn't even talk to them, who was actually causing more trouble in the last couple of days than anything else."
Investigators aren't commenting on a possible motive for the crime.
Grief counselors were brought in to help students deal with the loss of Alexander, who has been described as a "beloved" adviser.
