Student Ambassadors From Crenshaw High Gear Up For China Trip
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Nearly three dozen Crenshaw High School students were named Ambassadors to China at City Hall Friday, and now they are gearing up for a trip of a lifetime.
The 35 students will be traveling to China with the Los Angeles Urban League as part of a cultural and educational exchange, in which they will deliver lectures to Chinese students in Beijing and Shanghai.
"I'm just looking forward to the simple things like eating chopsticks," said Jordan Williams, one of the students.
For the past few weeks, they've been immersed in Chinese culture and language classes before they make the journey.
"When it hits them where they are, when they take this 18 hour flight from here to China, they touch down on China… the impact is just something that you can't explain," Chris Strudwick-Turner of the LA Urban League said.
The students leave for China on July 14.
