Stray Kitten Saved On 91 Freeway
RIVERSIDE (CBS) — A stray kitten hanging from a freeway ledge in Riverside Tuesday was safely retrieved by a fast-moving animal control officer.
The 3-month-old black kitten was spotted by a motorist around 2 p.m. on the eastbound Riverside 91 Freeway, near the Van Buren Boulevard exit, according to John Welsh of Riverside County Animal Services.
Officer Alanna Esch rushed to the location, fearing the kitten might be hit by a passing car or fall off the ledge where she had last been seen, Welsh said.
Esch had to make more than one pass before she finally caught sight of the cat on a wall along the right shoulder of the freeway.
"When she approached the kitty, it did try to bolt," Welsh said.
"(Esch) scooped her up with her net and transported her to the Western Riverside County Animal Shelter."
The kitten was treated for an injury to her pelvic bone but was expected to be fine, according to Welsh.
Welsh did not say when the feline might be available for adoption.
