Strawberries Keep Top Spot In Ventura County Crops
VENTURA (AP) — Strawberries are still the top crop in Ventura County where agriculture revenues rose 14.5 percent last year to nearly $2 billion.
The annual crop report released Tuesday shows the county's No. 1 crop was valued at $542 million, up 5 percent from 2009.
Agricultural Commissioner Henry Gonzalez also found a surprise while crunching the numbers: Celery is the county's No. 2 crop with a value exceeding $182 million, a jump of more than 8 percent.
The Ventura County Star says nursery stock came in third, followed by lemons, raspberries, avocados and tomatoes.
Overall, Ventura County grower revenues were $1.86 billion.
