Stow Beating Suspect Transferred To San Diego Prison To Serve Parole Violation

SAN DIEGO (CBS) — The primary suspect in the Bryan Stow assault case has been transferred to a San Diego prison to serve a parole violation.

Giovanni Ramirez, 31, arrived at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility early Tuesday morning, an official with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said.

On June 20, a judge sentenced Ramirez to serve a 10 month sentence for violating his parole when he was found to be in "access to a weapon by a felon." Police say Ramirez was in possession of a gun and ammunition at the time of his assault arrest.

Since his arrest on May 22, Ramirez was being held at the Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles.

Ramirez, who police say is a documented member of the Varrio Nuevo Estrada street gang, has at least three prior felony convictions. According to police, he was convicted of attempted robbery in 1998, robbery in 1999, and firing a weapon in a public place in 2005, the L.A. Times reported.

Police believe Ramirez was one of three men who beat Stow outside of Dodger Stadium on March 31. Ramirez has not been charged in that case.
