Suspect In Stow Beating Will Remain In Jail
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The man suspected of beating a San Francisco Giants fan into a coma at Dodger Stadium will remain in jail after a hearing with parole officials.
In a hearing Friday morning, a parole board determined that convicted felon Giovanni Ramirez had violated the terms of his parole when he was arrested for the beating of Bryan Stow on March 31.
The closed hearing at the Men's Central Jail looked at evidence to see whether Ramirez had committed assault with the intent to cause great bodily injury or if he had been found in possession of a gun.
Ramirez's attorney says the parole panel ordered Ramirez kept in jail, but that decision had nothing to do with the beating allegation.
Police say they're still looking for a second attacker and a woman who drove their car.
Ramirez's lawyer says his client was with his 10-year-old daughter the night Bryan Stow, 42, was beaten at Dodger Stadium. His 10-year-old daughter and her mother both gave statements to the LAPD Thursday.
Attorneys for Ramirez are expected to go before a judge Friday afternoon in hopes of obtaining evidence -- such as footage from surveillance cameras -- they contend could help prove their client was not at Dodger Stadium the day of the beating.
Chief Charlie Beck says Ramirez remains a suspect in Stow's beating and that charges will soon be filed.
He confirmed Ramirez took a lie detector test, but would not discuss the results.
Stow remains in a coma in San Francisco.
