Storm Systems Expected To Bring Big Swells To OC Beaches
HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — The storm systems hitting California this weekend are expected to bring big swells to some Orange County beaches.
Waves are expected to build between eight to 10 feet in Newport Beach during the high surf advisory.
In Seal Beach, four to seven foot high surf is forecast for Saturday morning.
"Sunday will be okay and it will start to drop off again through next week," said Joey Bailey, Seal Beach's chief lifeguard.
Bailey continued, "But other places, like north Los Angeles County and San Diego, they're going to have much larger surf because the surf is coming at a right angle for their beach."
The surf in Huntington Beach is expected to be three to four feet higher than in Seal Beach.
Cameron Flint, a surfer from Australia, said he's been enjoying the waves.
"This really got my adrenaline going. It's not the best conditions, but I've had some of the best rides of my life here already," he said.
Surfer Dru Roland said, "It's fun. The water is not too cold yet with the storm coming. As long as you have a new wetsuit, you'll be good."
Residents are being warned that rip currents are expected during the high surf. There's also a chance of minor beach erosion and localized flooding of low-lying areas.
