Storm Damage To Kern County Roads Estimated At $7.5M
BAKERSFIELD (AP) — Kern County officials estimate that flooding from the recent spate of storms has caused at least $7.5 million of damage to its roads.
County officials are still assessing the total damages, but preliminary estimates are that repairs will take between six months and a year to finish.
County Roads Commissioner Craig Pope told the Bakersfield Californian that one of the worst-hit areas is Sierra Way, the main route along the eastern shores of Isabella Lake. A portion of that road gave way after rain weakened a hillside running underneath the asphalt.
The county is currently paying for the repairs, but Pope says it may later be reimbursed by the state.
