Storm Could Make Holiday Return To LA-Area Tough
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A weekend storm figures to make the holiday homecoming tough for travelers returning to Southern California.
The National Weather Service says the mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura counties will be under a winter storm warning starting at 3 a.m. Sunday and lasting for most of the day as overnight temperatures plunge and snow could fall as low as 3,500 feet.
Forecasters say travelers on the Grapevine section of Interstate 5 leading into Los Angeles should be especially wary, with the likelihood of snow, ice, dense fog and winds gusting up to 60 mph. The 4,100-foot-high pass through the Tehachapi Mountains is frequently closed because of winds and snow.
Earlier rains doused downtown Los Angeles Saturday night, and soaked the Notre Dame-University of Southern California football game at the Coliseum.
