Stolen Vehicle Collides With Metro Gold Line Train In Highland Park
HIGHLAND PARK (CBSLA) – A stolen vehicle being followed by officers crashed into a Metro Gold Line train Wednesday afternoon in Highland Park.
The collision occurred around 5:19 p.m. in the area of Marimon Way and North Avenue 56, near the Highland Park Metro station. After striking the train, the fleeing sedan ricocheted into a home, where it left a massive hole in the garage and struck a car parked in the driveway.
The homeowner said the crash was chaotic.
"I felt the whole house shake. It was worse than an earthquake," she said. "You're at home, putting your feet up and then 'Kaboom!' Life changes."
Sky2 was over the crash, where several fire crews and police officers were on scene.
"It's just a disaster, I heard someone yelling, I didn't realize it was a police man," "I was gonna call 911, but when I came out, I saw the policeman arresting one of the girls – had her down on the ground,"
Officers had been following the stolen vehicle when the collision occurred, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Im said.
The man who was driving was taken into custody, along with three other suspects in the car, he said.
The family said they've had the home for generations, and that they may have lost precious family mementos in the crash.
"I mean, the car can be replaced and the house can be fixed, but it really is the sentimental stuff that's gonna be hard,"
One person aboard the train complained of back pain, Sky2's Stu Mundel reported. She was taken to an area hospital, police said.
Partial service was restored on a single track by about 5:45 p.m. and full service, with delays of about 20 minutes, was restored by about 6:50 p.m., according to Metro.
