Steven Spielberg Challenges Students To Learn About The Holocaust
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Academy Award-winning director Steven Spielberg has a new project he hopes will catch on with young people.
Marking the 20th anniversary of "Schindler's List," Spielberg and the USC Shoah Foundation to launch the IWitness Video Challenge, a program for middle and high school students to engage them to learn from Holocaust video testimonies.
"'He who saves one life, saves the world entire,' was the statement that moved me to form the Shoah Foundation," Spielberg said.
Spielberg, inspired by the making of "Schindler's List," established the USC Shoah Foundation in 1994 to videotape interviews with survivors and other witnesses of the Holocaust. Since then, nearly 52,000 eyewitness testimonies have been recorded in 56 countries and in 32 languages.
