Urban, Small Stream Flood Advisory In Effect For LA, Ventura Counties
UPDATE: The National Weather Service in Oxnard extended the flood advisory to last through 9 p.m.) This included the cities of Sunland, Tujunga, Lake View Terrace, La Canada/Flintridge, Acton, Long Beach, Diamond Bar, Monterey Park and downtown LA.
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Los Angeles and Ventura counties until 4 p.m.
The alert warns that river or stream flows are on the rise and could cause water to accumulate on roadways and intersections, according to the NWS.
The advisory is just one result of a strong storm system which moved over the region Sunday.
The heavy downpour caused flooded streets and businesses on Melrose Avenue in Hollywood; flooded cars in the 600 block of Rossmore and caused water buildup between Mulholland and Ventura.
The rain was also to blame for nearly a dozen accidents, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Meantime, the city of Sierra Madre issued a Green Flag alert for the hillside communities, asking residents to keep a close watch on the weather and be ready for possible evacuations.
Elsewhere, a winter weather advisory for the mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura counties is in effect until 9 p.m. at elevations of 5000 to 5500 feet.
CBS2 Meteorologist Kaj Goldberg reports that three to six inches of snow are likely to accumulate by Monday morning with snow levels possibly dropping as low as 4500 feet by Sunday night.
Morning showers are possible Monday with highs in the 60s. Forecasters say more rain is possible Wednesday night through Thanksgiving day!
