Statue Of West Covina High School's Bulldog Mascot Defaced With Swastika
WEST COVINA (CBSLA.com) — Police say they're looking for vandals who defaced the statue of West Covina High School's bulldog mascot with green paint and a swastika over the weekend.
"We're investigating it as a possible hate crime, but it could be a high school prank, as well," West Covina police Lt. David Lee said.
The statue stands in the center quad of the campus, located at 1609 E. Cameron Avenue.
The culprits drew what appeared to be a swastika and, on the bulldog's back leg, the letters "SH."
Investigators suspect the initials may stand for West Covina High's crosstown rival South Hills High School, which sports white and green as the school colors.
"It's offensive, you know. It's our campus and we like our colors and they just put it in green," student Brandon Matila said. "To top it all off, they drew a Nazi sign."
"A lot of students are talking about how they should go over to South Hills and do something to their school," student Dasha Winterer said.
No suspects have been arrested, police reported.
