Starbucks Expected To Unveil Red Holiday Cups This Week

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Starbucks is expected to roll out its red holiday cups this week, and will be offering customers a free beverage with the purchase of a holiday drink.

The coffee giant says patrons who buy one holiday drink can get another one free from Nov. 10 through Nov. 14 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at participating stores.

Last year, Starbucks' solid red holiday cup sparked backlash because it didn't feature any holiday images or symbols.

In fact, an article posted to Breitbart.com called the plain red cups the "War on Christmas," alleging that all signs of the holiday had been removed as the cups previously depicted images of ornaments and snowflakes.

Others weighing in on the red cups, however, disagreed with those who claimed the cups weren't festive enough with the hashtags #ItsJustACup along with #AreYouSerious.

This year's design is expected to feature more of a holiday theme. That's according to an anonymous photo leaked by a Starbucks barista.

Last week, Starbucks also unveiled a green cup that features a mosaic of more than a hundred people drawn in one continuous stroke.

The artwork by Shogo Ota was designed to represent shared humanity and connection.
