Star Of Hitchcock Films, Farley Granger Dead At 85
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Actor Farley Granger, who starred in Alfred Hitchcock classics "Rope" and "Strangers on a Train," died Sunday.
Granger was 85.
Granger was born in San Jose, California, the son of a well-to-do auto dealer. The family lost it all during the stock market crash and after years of struggle, Granger's dad moved the family to Los Angeles.
By the time Granger graduated high school, he was in demand by several studios.
He died in New York City where he lived for the past several decades.
Granger starred in scores of movies but it was Alfred Hitchcock's "Rope" (in 1948) and "Strangers on a Train" (in 1951), that were his biggest achievements.
Granger is perhaps Hollywood's most well-known bisexual although he deplored labels of any kind.
In 2007, he penned an autobiography — "Include Me Out" — listing some of his famous loves and conquests including Ava Gardner, Leonard Bernstein, Shelley Winters, Patricia Neal and playwright Arthur Laurents...to name a few.
