Man Stabbed To Death In Rose Bowl Parking Lot
PASADENA (CBSLA) — A man was found stabbed to death in a Rose Bowl parking lot, police said Tuesday.
Witnesses called police to Lot K at about 10 p.m. after a man in his 20s was found stabbed next to his car. Runner Monica Levine said many people come to run, exercise and simply hang out at the Rose Bowl regularly, and it's hard to believe someone was stabbed in the middle of the night.
"It makes me a little bit nervous," she said.
Demetrio Tapia Jr., 22, of Pasadena, died at the scene, according to the coroner's office and Pasadena Police Lt. Jason Clawson.
Police say the stabbing does not appear to be a random attack, because the man may have known his attacker and was not at the stadium to exercise. There is reason to believe the victim was involved in a fight before the stabbing was reported, police said.
The jogging track remained closed Tuesday morning to allow officers to scour the lot in search of evidence. There is no danger to other joggers and exercisers, police said.
"We bring our kids down here, you see elderly people walking," one man said. "It's always been a safe place to walk."
