Speed A Possible Factor In Fatal Crash Involving Salma Hayek's Brother
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Speed may have been to blame in the crash that killed a Grammy-winning art director riding in an exotic car driven by actress Salma Hayek's brother, Sami Hayek.
Ian Cuttler Sala of New York was killed when the 2006 Ford GT he was a passenger in lost control on Sunset Boulevard and collided with a westbound Toyota Tacoma at about 4:50 p.m. Sunday.
Sala's side of the high-performance car sustained the brunt of the collision.
Sami Hayek, a furniture designer, suffered broken ribs and a cut on the head. The Tacoma's driver, 20-year-old Alvin Javier Gomez, suffered a possible broken foot and other injuries, but tweeted that he was alive.
Sala, a former Sony Music art director and photographer who designed a Grammy-winning music box set for "Johnny Cash: The Legend," was declared dead at the scene.
Los Angeles police say they will turn the results of their traffic investigation over to prosecutors with the District Attorney's Office, who will decide if any charges are filed in the deadly accident.
The Ford GT is a limited production, 500-horsepower-plus street legal two-seater. Police said it was registered to a limited liability corporation called FHPGT based out of Whitefish, Mo.
