Southern California Shakes Off Winter Chill

LOS ANGELES (AP) — It's spring break for winter in Southern California.

The region began warming Thursday, with daytime temperatures rising to unseasonable highs. Basking under sunny skies, downtown Los Angeles reached 75 degrees, seven degrees above normal.

The National Weather Service says conditions will become even balmier as strong high pressure builds over Nevada on Friday and gusty offshore flow strengthens to a moderate Santa Ana wind for the weekend.

Forecasters say that will push the mercury into the 80s in some areas on Saturday.

Sunday will bring a bit of cooling along the coast but inland areas will remain warm, with highs five to 10 degrees above normal through the week.
