Lockdown Lifted At South LA Elementary School After Report Of Armed Man In Area
SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A South Los Angeles elementary school was on lockdown Tuesday after a report of a possible man with a gun in the area.
Loren Miller Elementary School, 830 W. 77th St., was placed on lockdown around 8 a.m., according to the Los Angeles School Police Department.
"We had reports this morning of an individual, unauthorized that came onto the campus, and the reports were that he was possibly armed carrying an instrument that was possibly a weapon wrapped in a black cloth, so we brought police individuals in two search for the individual, see if we could take him into custody if he was on the campus, but primarily to ensure the safety of the kids that were here," Deputy Chief Hector Rodriguez said.
The lockdown was lifted around 10:45 a.m., officials said.
"We did a room by room search, we searched over 50 rooms on the campus and we didn't find the individual and didn't find the weapon," Rodriguez said.
Three other schools in the area were also on lockdown due to an unrelated armed robbery and shooting.
