South Bay Band Director Arrested After Allegedly Having Sex With Female Student, 17

HAWTHORNE (CBS) — A South Bay band director is facing charges Tuesday after allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old girl.

Corey Hogan, 32, was arrested Monday on charges of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, the Hawthorne Police Department said.

According to authorities, a student and her mother went to Hawthorne police Monday to report that the teen had sex with Hogan, a band director at Washington High School.

"The victim told Hawthorne Police Department Detectives that she had befriended Hogan while on the Dance Team for Lou Dantzler Preparatory Charter High School," police said.

The dance team used Washington High School, where Hogan works, for practice and competitions, police said.

The alleged incident took place in the fall of 2011 after a high school football game at Washington High where the victim's dance team preformed. Hogan offered to give the girl and her friends a ride home following the game, officials said.

"After the other students were dropped off, the victim agreed to go to Hogan's residence in Hawthorne, where she consented to having sex with him," police said.

The legal age of consent in California is 18.

Hogan is being held on $100,000 bail.
