Sources: Agent Expects Matt Kemp To Be Traded
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The chances the Los Angeles Dodgers will trade former All-Star centerfielder Matt Kemp seem to be increasing.
Kemp's agent, Dave Stewart, told Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times that he expects Kemp to be traded this offseason.
The Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles are among multiple teams confirmed to have inquired about the 29-year-old Kemp, who is under contract with the Dodgers through 2019 with about $130 million remaining over the next six year.
This incredible sum, awarded after a tremendous 2011 season (.324/.399/.586, with 39 home runs, 126 RBI and 40 stolen bases), is the primary factor in many teams shying away from Kemp, who has since struggled with injuries.
Managing to play in 73 games with the Dodgers in 2013, Kemp hit just .270 with six homers and 33 RBI.
While the Red Sox discussions likely won't produce results, the Dodgers are reported to be still be talking with four different teams on the possibility of trading Kemp or fellow outfielder Andre Ethier.
The Dodgers are shopping around the market for a third baseman, more bullpen help and a starter.
