Narbonne's Sophomore QB Erupts

STUDIO CITY, Calif. -- Coming into this season, the Sophomore QBs to watch were Sherman Oaks Notre Dame's Kelly Hilinski, Tesoro's Matt Adam, Cathedral's Hayden Rettig, and Narbonne's Troy Williams.
It was assumed Hilinski would be the heir apparent to Ryan Kasdorf. While the 6'5" sophomore saw action in the Knights season opening loss to (1) (Gardena) Serra last week, the QB position, at least for now, belongs to senior Matt Lauthuras.
As for Adam, head coach Brian Barnes thinks very highly of him and couldn't wait to get him on the field. Adam saw lots of action last season as a freshman. Last week he threw for 84 yards and rushed for 61 yards and two TD in the Titans 54-0 rout of Cerritos Valley Christian. A real test will come tonight in PAC-5 for Santa Margarita (1-0).
Rettig is the younger brother of Chase Rettig who's at Boston College now after spending last season at San Clemente. The younger Rettig has been tabbed as one of the top QBs to watch in the 2013 class. He's scheduled to make his debut tonight for Cathedral, when the Phantoms travel to Glendale. It's the opener for both teams.
Williams played spot duty during the Gauchos run to consecutive City Section Championship Game appearances. In limited action, he completed eight of 12 passes for two TD and an INT behind Chad Dashnaw (Portland State). This year the sophomore has the keys to the Gaucho offense and had quite a debut last night. Williams completed 21 of 30 passes for 357 yards and four TDs in his first career start. A 41-0 win for the Gauchos (1-0) over South East (1-1). We'll see how he does next week in a much stronger test against (4) Long Beach Poly (1-0). Williams can also run. Head coach Manuel Douglas believes the sophomore will be able to add some dimensions to the offense Narbonne had when QB Josh Moten called the signals. Others close to the situation tell me Williams is the real deal.
