Ready for some winter fun? You don't have to drive very far to hit the slopes. Here is a quick guide to the best ski and snowboard destinations and resources.

Located just 90 miles from Los Angeles in the San Bernardino Mountains, you'll find Bear Mountain. It is a popular spot for snowboarders and skiers, who can romp in the area's three terrain parks. Bear Mountain also features a double black run, sure to get your adrenaline pumping should be be brave enough to try it. This resort features 12 lifts to take you the top of all the various runs.

Snow Summit Mountain Resort is sister mountain of Bear Mountain. The resorts are about 2 miles apart and are connected via a free shuttle service. Did you know that Snow Summit is considered to be the first ski area in America to make its own snow? The resort sits at 7,000 feet and is a full service winter resort with all types of lodging, shops, and nightly entertainment. There are 31 trails and 14 ski lifts to keep the adventures going. Come play in several freestyle parks including Ego Trip, the Skyline Creek Fun Zone and the Westridge.

The closest ski resort in the San Bernardino Mountains is Snow Valley. The resort is about 30 minutes closer than the Big Bear ski resorts. With 13 lifts and 240 acres of terrain including a double black diamond trail, Snow Valley has something for every level skier and boarder. It is a great place for families with beginners of all ages and even features a Kinderschool for the younger newbies on the slopes.

In the San Gabriel Mountains and a shorter trip from LA is Mountain High Ski resort. It's also typically the warmer ski spot in So Cal due to the location in the "other" mountains. Mountain High is actually three resorts about a mile apart. Each resort has distinct differences in terrain and atmosphere. The West Resort is filled with an array of technical trails and skillfully-designed terrain features to satisfy the sport's new freestyle culture geared much more toward snowboarding. It attracts a younger crowd of people. It is also local ski resort that is open for skiing and snowboarding seven nights a week. The East Resort features cruising trails more than a mile and a half long, moguls and scenic views of the Mojave Desert. There are 16 lifts total to help you conquer all the trails.
